What is a Spooky Basket?

When we think of a spooky basket, we think of something that embraces all things spooky and fun. With lots of little goodies, scents, maybe a plushie, decorations or collectibles, and bigger items like a tumbler or blanket. Spooky baskets, or what we call them: Halloween Mystery Boxes, are our absolute favorite items we do here at Sterye. It’s what got us started back on 9/15/2021. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the season, just looking to add some festive flair to your home, or if you’re looking to make or gift someone special a Spooky Basket this Halloween season, here’s our ultimate guide to making a Spooky Basket.

Creating the Ultimate Spooky Basket

Building a spooky basket or boo basket this Halloween? First, lets start off with the basket it self. We’d suggest going with a high-quality plastic, tin, straw, or wooden basket as presentation is important. You can’t forget some little Halloween touches like spider webs to go over the items as a finishing touch, crinkled paper to add more depth, and of course sweet treats because it's Halloween.

For the items, it all depends on the person you’re shopping for and your budget! We’ll leave a list below of some of our favorite items that would be perfect in any spooky basket!

Halloween Plushies

Halloween plushies make a perfect spooky basket addition. A good skeleton, bat, pumpkin, ghost, or a favorite characters in a Halloween outfit if any are available. For our Halloween mystery boxes, we have 4 different plushies that come in premium boxes. A Pumpkin head with glowing eyes and a skeleton body, a furry black spider with black eyes, an undead teddy bear named Button Eyes, and a purple bat named Bella.

Comfy Essentials

Fuzzy Halloween socks, cozy blankets, or comfy PJs/clothing make an excellent addition to spooky baskets! You can mix it up with a horror blanket or stick with a classic Halloween style. Fuzzy Halloween socks, either plain or with characters on them. PJs also are a great choice that we just can’t forget to mention in comfy essentials.

Tumblers or cups

Tumblers, or some cold cups, are a great way to include some Halloween spice. There are so many different styles to choose from for Halloween tumblers and cups. All over Etsy and the internet. We offer a stainless steel 40oz red ghost with a ghost dog tumbler for our largest Halloween mystery box size. It’s pretty awesome.

Scents and candles

Fall is full of so many lovely scents which are perfect for a spooky basket. Pumpkin, cinnamon, apple, maple, nutmeg, are great Fall scents to name a few. Any candle with these scents makes another great addition to a spooky basket.

Horror items

We can’t forget any Horror items in a spooky basket. In our Halloween mystery boxes we like to include a few horror themed items. Whether they’re accessories, stickers, plushies, blankets, figures, etc. Any horror item makes a good addition to spooky baskets.

Stickers, stationary & accessories

Stickers, stationary items and accessories, such as keychains, lanyards, tote bags, compact mirrors, phone sockets, etc. Can be really nice small additions to your spooky baskets. These items are just nice touches that compliment the Halloween and spooky theme.

Collectible items and décor
